Monday August 17, 2015

Broadway in Chicago gave the audience a peek at the musicals playing now or coming to theaters soon in the Windy City.  Thousands of people gathered in Millennium Park to view this special event.  The free-to-the-public performances took place at the Pritzker Pavillion, an outdoor venue in the heart of Chicago.

Janet Davies, reporter on ABC-TV was the "master of ceremonies" for the evening. A large screen above the stage showed the live performance, so that all of the theater-goers could vtew the show.  After the national anthem, a tribute to Broadway was shown on thei big screen. Singers and dancers performed excerpts from ten shows: 42nd Street, A Gentleman's Guide, If/Then, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Beautiful - the Story of Carole King, Cabaret, Gotta Dance, Dirty Dancing, Newsies, and Lion King. At the end of the show, there was a surprise reveal that the popular and hilarious musical, Book of Mormon, will be making a return to Chicago.
