Old Mission Peninsula, Michigan

Friday, October 14, 2016

Last weekend, I went to a wedding in Traverse City, Michigan.  I stayed an extra day in order to explore the area. Traverse City sits at the lower end of Old Mission Peninsula. 19 miles long and 3 miles wide, this scenic peninsula divides Grand Traverse Bay into East and West Bays. It is dotted with vineyards. The vineyards provide taste-testing rooms for their wines to the delight of visitors.

I drove North on Center Line Road to the end of the Peninsula where the Old Mission Lighthouse is located. Along the way, I stopped at Bowers Harbor Vineyard and at Two Lads Vineyard.  Both offered beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Bowers Harbor Vineyard offered an outside area where visitors could sit and sample the wines.  There were tables and chairs provided between rows of grape vines where people could enjoy the experience with their friends in a semi-secluded space.

Travelers are happy to take home bottles of their favorite wines as sweet souvenirs of their time on Old Mission Peninsula.
