Architectural Abstracts in Palm Beach Exhibit
Sunday, January 11, 2015
The selection committee at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre in Florida chose five images from my architectural abstract series for inclusion in a group exhibit at the Centre. The two-month exhibit opens the third week in January during FOTOfusion, an international photo festival where world-class photographers, editors and curators gather annually.
The Festival features 5 days of lectures, workshops, panel discussions, portfolio reviews, excursions and gallery exhibitions. The gamut of photography is covered from sports, fine art, nature, photojournalism, portraiture, and alternate processes. Photographers at all levels participate in the week’s events. Instructors this year include talented photographers and educators Jack Davis, Robert Farber, Jeremy Sutton, Joyce Tenneson and Vincent Versace.
This year marks FOTOfusion’s 20th anniversary.

I have attended FOTOfusion a number of times and have come away with new knowledge, new friends and new and images for my portfolio. It’s here where I first met Gordon Parks, the first African-American photographer for Life Magazine and writer, director, music composer of the movie Shaft. At FOTOfusion, he gave a memorable program on a giant outdoor screen where he showed his watercolor paintings merged with his photography. At night, you could find him playing music at the Colony Hotel where photographers and instructors were staying.
It is also at FOTOfusion where I solidified my friendship with Arnold Newman (father of environmental portraiture) and his wife Augusta. We spent some of our downtime having leisurely meals overlooking the ocean.
One night during one FOTOfusion, I was invited to an impromptu dinner at a local outdoor restaurant with the photo editor of Vanity Fair, the curator of the Eastman Kodak House and an editor from Newsweek. Where else could this happen?
Beyond FOTOfusion week,The Centre hosts photographic educational classes, programs and exhibits all year long.
I am especially pleased and honored that my work was chosen to be in this special 20th anniversary FOTOusion group exhibit. I consider it a privilege to be included among the talented photographers associated with the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.
