CHICAGO FEELS THE BERN
MARCH 7, 2020
On March 7, 2020, Senator Bernie Sanders brought his presidential campaign to Chicago. Thousands of people gathered in Grant Park, in the center of the City, to hear him speak.
Sanders was preceded at the podium by a number of politicians from the local area including U.S. Congressman "Chuy" Garcia and by union leaders. Between speakers, a gospel choir entertained the crowd. A huge American flag served as the backdrop.
Sanders spoke about the topics that you have heard him speak on before - insurance for all, protecting the environment, prison reform, women's rights, racial equality, taxing the one percent of the wealthy, reducing student debt, giving a living wage to working people, and fighting the NRA and corporate influence. He also said that he would legalize marijuana in all states once he became president.
The crowd chanted, "Bernie, Bernie." Sanders seemed genuinely pleased at the size of the audience, a sea of people from one end of the park to the other. It actually got a big smile out of him.
Next stop, Michigan.
