Chicago Marathon 2014
It was a perfect day for photographing the Chicago marathon today. Although, I didn’t rise as early as I had planned, I found an ideal spot for photographing the race at the farthest north position of the course along North Lake Shore Drive where the runners made a turn.
At the start of the race, the temperature was in the 40's which is comfortable for a marathon. 45,000 participants including wheelchair athletes entered the 26 mile race which wound through Chicago's diverse neighborhoods.
Eliud Kipchoge, a 29 year old runner from Kenya, won the race with a time of 02:04:11. Kenya made a one, two, three sweep as Sammy Kitwara finished second with a time of 2:04:28, and Dickson Chumba came in third at 2:04:32. Kenyan Rita Jeptoo finished first among women in the Chicago marathon. with a time of 2:24:05. Tatyana McFadden from the University of Illinois won the women's wheelchair division for the fourth consecutive year.
