NATIONAL OFFSHORE ONE DESIGN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 9, 2019

Hundreds of sailors gathered in Chicago for the three-day Holly Hansen National Offshore One Design Sailing competition from June 7-9, 2019. Boats of the same design competed against one another in each of eleven fleets. Sailing World magazine was the organizer of this event which is one of nine regattas of its kind in North America. The Chicago Yacht Club hosted this regatta. The first and third days of races were canceled due to fog. The second day, Saturday, brought ideal conditions and more races were sailed than on a typical race day. The J105 boat, Vytis owned by Gyt Petkus, received top honors as overall winner. This entitles him to compete in the British Virgin Islands with the other regatta winners from around the country.
