Karen I. Hirsch is a visual storyteller – using her imagery to communicate an idea, a mood, an event or a personality.
Her abstract images are characterized by color, form and texture. There is a visual movement in her artwork described as a musical rhythm.
Hirsch creates digital art using her photos as a basis or starting from a blank slate.
Her artwork helps provide an environment that brings joy, energy, serenity, nostalgia or aspiration, depending on which pieces are displayed. Her images enhance a corporate, institutional, hospitality or residential location.
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Illinois Arts Council have awarded art grants to Hirsch.
In 2003, Hirsch had a solo photography exhibit at the Richard J. Daley Civic Center where she showed more than 200 images.
In 2007, she was invited by the Chinese government to be one of ten foreign photographers to document the city of Rizhao.
In 2013, the Millennium Fine Art Gallery in Chicago exhibited the solo show by Hirsch - “Shape, Rattle & Roll.”
In recent years, Hirsch’s images have been exhibited at the Hyde Park Art Center-Chicago, the Martha Schneider Gallery - Chicago, the Palette & Chisel-Chicago, the Bridgeport Art Center-Chicago, the Los Angeles Center of Digital Art and the Palm Beach Photographic Centre in Florida.
Hirsch’s original prints are included in private and corporate collections.
