CHICAGO GAY PRIDE PARADE 2015
Sunday, June 28, 2015
The 46th annual Chicago Gay Pride Parade took place on Sunday, June 28th, just two days after a momentous legal victory for the gay community. The United States Supreme Court had federalized the right to gay marriage Friday.
The Chicago Gay Pride Parade seemed especially festive this year with floats bursting with a rainbow of colors. Mayor Rahm Emanuel helped lead the parade, with Grand Marshall country singer Ty Hernon not far behind.
Along with the polititicans and not-for-profit organizations, there were numerous mainstream companies participating in the parade including Walgreens, Pepsico, Groupon and Oscar Meyer. The professional sports teams had their own floats, and even the newly won Stanley Cup by the Chicago Blackhawks made an appearance.
The enthusiastic crowd was rewarded with beads and trinkets as the parade moved down Broadway. Onlookers appeared at windows, balconies and rooftops as the parade passed by.
