The polar vortex swept down to the Midwest on January 30, 2019. Record low temperatures recorded in multiple cities. Chicago recorded -23 degrees Fahrenheit at O"Hare Airport by 7:00 AM, the coldest since 1985. Wind chill reached -52 degrees. Chicago Public Schools were closed as were many businesses. Navy Pier and Chicago Zoos also closed for the day. Metra trains reported 10 percent ridership than normal. Even colder temperatures have been predicted for tomorrow.
