Palm Beach Photographic Centre Exhibition
Tuesday, March 5, 2018
The Palm Beach Photographic Centre is showing ten of my botanic abstract images in an exhibition in their building. The exhibition began in January and will continue into March.
Some of the images in this series have been displayed at the Palette & Chisel in Chicago and at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago. In April, several of these botanic montages will be exhibited at the Noyes Art Center in Evanston in a group show. Below is my artist statement about this ongoing series.
The photos displayed here are part of a body of work of organic subjects. Photos of trees and plants have been mirrored and blended to form new entities. The original images were taken during the past six years in multiple locations including Michigan, Illinois, Florida, Puerto Rico and Greece.
In some of the montaged images, creatures and unearthly beings emerge. Other combinations result in the surreal. The forest takes on a mystical and mythical quality. There is a graphic synchronicity between the images due to the process of creating them.
This is a playful experiment in which the viewer can find his own way, making discoveries through exploration of the photographs.
